Cossacks march on with a 3 set win

Mens Div 2 team Dandenong Cossacks have jumped into the state titles with a passion! In the last four years the Cossacks have made 4 grandfinals, and won three of them. Held at the Victorian Volleyball Center in Dandenong, the Victorian State League is the highest competition in the state. The most recent victory was in 2009. Coached by Abdel Raffass, the Cossacks won the new men's division 2 section premiership, defeating Mornington in straight sets.

The men's division 2 team won a hard-fought first set 25-22, led by outside hitters An Huynh, Najim Amiriri, and Long Huynh, and had to claw its way back from a five-point deficit to win the second set 25-23. The Cossacks had all the momentum going into the deciding third set and won 25-19.

Established originally with junior Russian players 17 years ago, the Dandenong Cossacks Volleyball Club now has a multicultural mix of many different nationalities.  Current players include:-   Australian, English, Russian, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Samoan, Serbian, Croatian, Greek, and Polish.  The Dandenong Cossacks Volleyball Club also now has Four teams in highest state competition:- the Victorian State League.   In October 2009, the club hosted the 20th annual Russian Volleyball Cup. The event, supported by the City of Greater Dandenong, and one of the biggest volleyball tournaments held!
